First off, I hope this weekday finds you coping well and in good health amid everything else swirling around us… what else can we do, right?

We are entering our fourth week of online programming and have been able to improve the level of classroom and student support engagement by implementing the great built-in features of our Learning Management System (LMS) Schoology Conferences.

Some of our current LDI courses now feature live instructional sessions where we are able to see/hear each other during class time, split students into virtual breakout rooms, conduct polling, have students share their best work in Whiteboard, and create student hangout rooms. Just this week, we have added the ability to provide students confidential one-on-one weekly advisement meetings to stay connected with LDI students, though some virtual meetings may not begin until next week. It has been a dynamic learning process while seeking to engage the entire LDI community in place of face-to-face instruction.

On April 24th, I was part of a state-wide private school association meeting of senior operators and staff from AZ Department of Education. There will soon be a public announcement that schools will be allowed to be reopened with limited on-campus attendance in August. Even though there is no specific safety guidance, policies or procedures currently, it is a very positive development.

We are actively exploring this possible path forward to on campus/residential programming in anticipation of a limited, safe re-opening for residential students in July and day students in August!

In Mid-March, LDI put out written guidance on how we would reinstate students or other outside parties seeking a return to campus that were essentially best practices recommended by the CDC, AZ Department of Health Services, and the AZ Department of Education.

We are proceeding with this plan to bring students back on campus with great caution and a carefully thought-through plan which includes 14 day self-quarantining for returning residential students and additional on-campus measures to keep everyone safe while still providing essential services to our residential and community students alike.

Some of the changes include:

  • Limiting our residential program participants
  • Limiting our day student apartment cleaning through virtual monitoring
  • Limiting our daily on-campus activities/instruction
  • Offering a hybrid program experience- part in person/part virtual learning
  • Designing clearly separated classroom areas with preassigned seating
  • Laptop protocols
  • Standard and mandatory sanitary cleaning protocols
  • Promoting and insisting on student personal safety equipment such as masks and hand sanitizer – a student responsibility when on campus

Virtual Summer Academy

We will be running our Emerging Leaders Virtual Summer Program from June 8 – 26 and have many students signed up for this cohort already!

Day and Residential Programs

LDI is accepting new applications for day and residential enrollments provided they are willing and able to go through our COVID-19 onboarding protocols.

Questions… Please contact Justin via email at jcoller@discoverldi.com or by contacting him directly at 623-773-1545. You may also contact Rob Crawford, CEO via email at rcrawford@discoverldi.com or you may reach him directly at 623-773-2774 Ext: 217.

LDI will also continue to offer online program services for students and families who prefer that method of instruction as well as for returning students who will be self-quarantined while clearing COVID-19 protocols as a condition to return to campus. Over the next few weeks, we will continue to update the LDI community and public through these emails and social media outreach efforts.

We would like to think we have shown how much we value our relationships with our students, families, and referral sources, but are compelled to say again the gratitude and humility we are experiencing as the importance of trusting, human connection to higher purposes for our children and country have not seen a greater need for harmony, vision, and commitment than ever before.

Thank you for sharing this journey with us, and may we emerge together with solutions for a better world that makes sense of all the suffering we are enduring.

Thank you,

Rob & Veronica Crawford
