Life Development Institute extends a Happy Fourth of July to students, faculty, families, partners, and the community.

The Fourth of July, also known as Independence Day, became a federal holiday in 1870.  However, the roots of celebration for independence dates back to the American Revolution wherein the 13 colonies declared independence from Great Britain in June of 1776 followed by a vote of independence of July 2nd and the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.  Thus, July 4th marks the “birth” of American independence.

After the Revolutionary War, Americans continued to observe Independence Day each year.  This patriotic celebration took further root after the War of 1812.  In fact, Congress deemed July 4th a federal holiday in 1870 and expanded to a paid holiday to all federal employees in 1941.  In celebration of independence, families spend time together cooking out and enjoying patriotic music and fireworks.

During this year’s independence celebration, LDI wishes you and yours a happy and safe Fourth of July!
